What is Pixel Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Pixel Laser Skin Resurfacing is a non-ablative treatment that stimulates collagen and transforms the texture and quality of the skin. Non-ablative means that the laser will not penetrate as deep as the dermal layer of your skin, but the surface layers of the skin will undergo a complete cellular turn over. Essentially, we are causing a “controlled wound” to your area of concern; in order to enjoy the benefits of new, healthy, smoother looking skin.
Unlike other Resurfacing Lasers on the market, Pixel technology is different (and safer!) in two ways.
How does Pixel Laser Skin Resurfacing work?
First, the laser only penetrates until it senses moisture within your skin. Once this happens, the moisture is evaporated and the beam stops penetrating; it does not continue to “damage” multiple layers of healthy tissue. After all, it’s the outer layers that we are trying to resurface.
Secondly, the pixilated beam allows for damaged skin and healthy skin to work together to begin the healing process, as opposed to a laser that uses one solid beam to hit its target. Imagine a square inch of your skin is poked various times with a needle – those needle points are damaging to the skin, but there’s still plenty of healthy tissue and collagen surrounded those wounds to ensure a speedy recovery!
Who will benefit from Pixel Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Anyone battling with stretch marks and scars from acne or injury, fine lines and even deep wrinkles can benefit from Pixel Laser Skin Resurfacing. Because of the intensity of this treatment, you should be prepared to take it easy for a couple of days, avoid adding heat to the area, and keep the area well hydrated. If the treated area is one that isn’t covered by clothing, say on the face, consider doing the treatment over the weekend so you have time to heal without feeling self conscious – there will be an initial few days of pink or redness, similar to a moderate sun burn. After a few days, a light scabbing will form. It is important to keep the area well hydrated in order to promote quick and healthy cell turnover.
The down time after Pixel treatments are significantly shorter and virtually pain free, unlike the healing process from traditional Fractional lasers. With the same result! Once the light scabbing has appeared, usually 3-4 days post treatment; you’ll know you’re well on your way to beautifully smooth skin.
How many treatments will I need?
Most patients require three to six treatments, with roughly one month in between each treatment. Upon completion of the initial schedule, your Laser Essential & Skin Care specialist will help determine additional maintenance treatments with appropriate interval time.
