LATISSE® is the only prescription eyelash product approved in Canada which causes natural eyelashes to grow longer, fuller and darker. Originally formulated as a prescription drug containing Bimatoprost to treat the eye condition Glaucoma, patients noticed a dramatic thickening and lengthening of their lashes with regular use of this topical drug.
The product, now marketed as LATISSE®, came to be used as a cosmetic tool to enhance natural lashes and has gained popularity with celebrities and those looking for longer, thicker, darker lashes of their own.
Benefits and Side Effects
Beautiful, dramatic effects can be seen with the regular use of LATISSE® in as little as 8 weeks. Longer, thicker, darker natural lashes will be observed with regular use, and the best part, no need for messy eyelash glues and clumpy mascara. The lashes are completely natural.
During your initial consultation, our Doctor will go over the risks and side effects associated with LATISSE®. The most common side effects from using LATISSE® include: itchy, watery or dry eyes, and a permanent darkening of the skin on the eyelids.
How Does It Work?
Although still disputed, it is thought that LATISSE® works by extending the length of the Anagen phase (the “active growth stage” of a hair) and in turn increases the number of lashes your body produces naturally.
For best results, LATISSE® should be applied each night before sleeping, and only on the base of the top eyelashes. Once the use of LATISSE® has ceased, lashes will over time return to their original length and thickness.
Is the Procedure Painful?
The topical application of LATISSE® should not cause discomfort, however overtime you may experience some of side effects listed above. It is important to discuss all concerns with the medical professional providing you with LATISSE®.
Is Long Term Use Required?
Yes. LATISSE® should be applied each evening before sleeping. Results can be seen in as little as 8 weeks, with the majority of change seen around sixteen weeks. Once use of the product has ceased, lashes will over time return to their natural length and thickness.
